Each suger-coted tablet contains 400mg Ibuprofen.
Mechanism of Action:
Ibuprofen contains ibuprofen, which is a non-steroiadal, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgestic agent, It inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins. Ibuprofen us absorbed from the gastrointesting tract producing peak plasma concentrations after one to two hours.
Ibuprofen is indicated in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteo-arthrities and ankylosing spondylitis, Still's disease(juvenile rheunatoid atrthritis), fibrositis, musculoskeletal pain,swelling and inflammation due to trauma.
Dosage & Administration:
Adult dose:600mg-1200 daily in divided doses.
Pediatric dose: 20mg/kg body mass per day but not to exceed 500mg per day in children weighting less than 30kg.
Side-effects and Special Precautions:
Ibuprofen may cause nauses, vomiting, dyspepsia, diarrhea, stomatitis, or gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Headache, dizziness, nervousness and other central nervous system effects, skin rash, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, toxic amblyopia, bronchospasm, oedema, timmitus, pruritus, depression, drowsiness, insomnia and blurred vision may occur. Abnormalities of liver function tests and impairment of renal fuction has been observed. Acute reversible renal failure has been reported. Ibuprofen should be used with care in patients with impaired renal fuction. Inview of the product's inherent potential to cause fluid retention, heart failure may be precipitated in some compromised patients.
In should be given with care to patients with peptic ulceration or a history of such ulceration, bleeding disorders, cardiovascular disease and those on oral anticoagulants. It should not be given to patients who are sensitive to aspirin. Ibuprofen should be adminstered with care in patients with asthma, especially those who have developed bronchospasm with other non-steroidial agents.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Ibuprofen should not be administered during pregnancy and is not recommender for use by breast-feeding women. Regular use of NSAIDS during the third trimrster of pregnancy may result in premature closure of the foetal ductus asterisosus in utero and possibly in presistent pulmonary hypertension of the bewborn. The onsert of labour maybe delayed and its duration increased.
